EEF announces Prof. Becky Francis as new Chief Executive

Sir Peter Lampl, founder of the Sutton Trust and Chairman of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), has announced the appointment of Professor Becky Francis as the EEF’s new Chief Executive.

Becky will join the EEF in the New Year from the UCL Institute of Education, where she has been Director since 2016. Prior to that she was Professor of Education and Social Justice at King’s College London. Her areas of expertise include school quality and academies policy, and social inequality and educational achievement.

She succeeds Sir Kevan Collins, who, after eight years at the EEF and more than 17 year occupying significant leadership roles across the English education system, has decided to stop working full time. Sir Kevan was recently announced as chair of the Youth Endowment Fund, a £200m government-backed initiative to tackle serious violence.

Sir Peter said:

I’m delighted that Becky will be joining the EEF as our new CEO to build on Kevan’s outstanding work. She brings a wealth of experience of education research and a deep-rooted commitment to tackling inequality and low social mobility. Becky will lead a brilliant and dedicated team and I look forward to working with her in the years to come.

On her appointment, Becky added:

Under Kevan’s leadership, the EEF has become a world leader in education research and changed how teachers access and use evidence. It is a great opportunity to lead the EEF at a time of expansion and have a significant impact on schools and disadvantaged pupils in England. I look forward to working with Peter, Stephen and the superb team at the EEF.
