EEF responds to the NAHT survey on pupil premium funding

Commenting on the NAHT survey of school leaders on pupil premium funding, Professor Becky Francis, CEO of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), said:

“One of the main selling points of the pupil premium is that it’s linked to individual pupils, allowing schools to target support with a focus on those who need it most. At a time when schools are facing monumental challenges, the additional funding they get through the pupil premium has never been more important.

“It’s concerning that schools are expecting to lose thousands of pounds of funding for their disadvantaged pupils because of a bureaucratic detail. This detail may seem minor but it could have real-world implications for the support that schools are able to provide to their pupils who need it most. On a national level, it could mean that schools miss out on tens of millions of pounds of funding.

“We would urge the government to monitor the rates of pupil premium eligibility and to make sure that all schools have the resources they need.”
