Supporting other organisations

Promoting evidence use across the system.

We know that leaders, teachers, and practitioners engage with evidence through a range of routes and organisations. That is why EEF is committed to supporting others to promote evidence across the system.

Professional development has the potential to significantly improve teacher effectiveness, which can in turn help to close disadvantage gaps. EEF is committed to ensuring that teacher professional development in England is underpinned by the best available evidence.

Since 2019, the EEF has worked closely with the Department for Education on its national teacher development programmes. Performing the role of an independent evidence guardian’, the EEF has reviewed the content frameworks for initial teacher training and early career teaching, and for National Professional Qualifications, to ensure that they are underpinned by robust evidence. We also work with providers delivering these qualifications to support them to draw on evidence effectively in their programmes.

Alongside our work on national professional development, our working through others’ activity aims to support other organisations who are working with education settings to embed evidence-informed approaches within their work. There are two strands to this work:

  1. Universal: content that’s been designed to help organisations in their support for educators and settings. Our resource hub for training and support providers houses these resources.
  2. Bespoke support: project work with specific organisations who are seeking to build their organisational capacity and expertise for evidence-use. Examples of this work can be found in the blogs section below.

Answers to common questions about our evidence guardianship role for the teacher professional development reforms, including the Early Career Framework (ECF) and National Professional Qualifications (NPQs).
