Education Evidence Scotland brings together high-quality research evidence and practical guidance, tailored to the Scottish education context. It aims to support efforts to close Scotland’s poverty-related attainment gap by helping more educators access, understand, and apply research evidence when making decisions about teaching and learning. The new hub and the associated resources combine research evidence and the global evidence base, with insights from Scottish educators.
Leading evidence-informed change in Scotland
Education Evidence Scotland is an independent evidence hub in Scotland is supported by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and the wider expertise of the global Evidence for Education Network. The EEF has worked to increase the use of evidence in schools in England; Education Evidence Scotland extends that effort into the Scottish education system while responding to Scotland’s distinct context and priorities.
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is an independent charity dedicated to breaking the link between family income and educational achievement. In England, it supports schools, colleges and early years settings to improve teaching and learning through better use of evidence by generating, summarising and mobilising high-quality research, bringing findings together in accessible summaries, and supporting educators to turn that evidence into practical decisions.
The ambition for this work is to strengthen Scotland’s culture of evidence-informed practice, making it easier for educators to find research they can trust, understand what it means for their context and use it to make a difference for children and young people. This project has been made possible through a partnership with, and funding from, The Robertson Trust’s Education Pathways Programme Awards.
Using Education Evidence Scotland from day one
Available from launch, its flagship resource, Making a Difference, is a practical guide for school leaders and educators. It sets out a clear three-stage approach to research evidence-informed decision-making: exploring needs, identifying evidence-informed solutions, and putting evidence into practice
Alongside guidance, Education Evidence Scotland is establishing a national network of Research Evidence Champions. The Champions will help build momentum around the use of evidence, share examples of Scottish practice, and support engagement with schools and education bodies.
