Each funding round is focused on themes, to make sure we answer the most important questions, while also prioritising the areas that are likely to be most beneficial for socio-economically disadvantaged pupils.
Our current funding round, which is open to applications until November 2024, is focused on generating evidence for:
Secondary maths, and
Writing in Key Stages 1 to 4.
Look at the individual theme pages for more information about the types of projects we’ll fund, as well as links to guidance notes and the application forms.
This is the second funding round for both themes, to address remaining gaps in our portfolio.
Across the two themes, we’ll support early-programme development and fund different types of research – including evidence synthesis, practice reviews, pilot evaluations, quasi-experimental studies, and randomised controlled trials – to add to the evidence base of what we know about improving learning outcomes.
You can find out more by reading the guidance notes from our earlier funding round on these two themes.
Writing in Key Stages 1 – 4
Secondary maths
Within our themes, we want to fund projects at different stages of their development, from those that are being developed and piloted, to those that have shown a positive impact on children and young people’s outcomes and will be tested at a larger scale.
