Education Endowment Foundation:Educational Technology (EdTech): Spring 2023 grant funding round

Educational Technology (EdTech): Spring 2023 grant funding round

Apply for funding for projects focused on EdTech.

The EEF’s grant-funding tests the impact of high-potential programmes and approaches aiming to raise the attainment of 2 – 19 year-olds from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This funding round is part of EEF’s reinvigorated commissioning approach. Funding rounds will now have particular topic foci and fund projects within selected themes under these topics, ensuring that we are focusing on funding projects to answer the most important questions as suggested by the existing evidence base, prioritising the areas that are likely to be most beneficial for socio-economically disadvantaged children.

We are interested in applications for this funding round in pedagogical programmes and approaches using EdTech that will also allow us to explore the role of teaching professionals and understand implementation in the classroom, including where schools use innovative AI or adaptive technologies with pupils.

We are interested in which features of technology, and how it is used, may support academic attainment, particularly for pupils eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).

We are interested in funding programmes and approaches that are delivered to pupils aged 5 – 16 (KS1‑4) in England.

Further information about this theme and the sub-themes that we are interested in can be found in the guidance notes document below.

In this funding round we are inviting EdTech programmes and approaches that are suitable for efficacy and effectiveness trials (see more detail in the guidance notes):

  • Efficacy trials: projects that are suited for an impact trial, delivering in around 50+ settings.
  • Effectiveness trials: projects that have a positive outcome from a causal impact evaluation and/or have already established a consistent delivery model at a large scale.

We aim to provide further opportunities to apply for funding for EdTech programmes and approaches later in 2023 via projects which synthesise existing evidence, and for pilot trials.
